World Association of Wrestling (WAW) and International Pro Wrestling: United Kingdom (IPW:UK) today announce a deal that sees them become the two benchmark promotions under the Real Quality Wrestling banner. With each promotion earning a European television deal with a leading German TV station and potential worldwide recognition through planned license deals.
RQW House, Dagenham, UK
After hinting that big news has been coming for months Real Quality Wrestling owner Len Davies today proudly announced the joining of two powerhouses in UK wrestling under one umbrella and a new European television deal that will see each of the respective promotions receiving their own show, in their own style as Real Quality Wrestling will provide programming seven nights a week. This is the true beginning of what Real Quality Wrestling was meant to be: a benchmark in UK wrestling. Despite not being the initial intention of the outfit, the past two years has seen RQW independently promote numerous shows around the country. It would seem that the concept of an umbrella promotion was harder to implement than initially thought. Throughout that time however a number of lessons were learned, contacts made and bridges built which is where we find ourselves today.
It has been clear for some time that the betterment of UK wrestling required like minded people, with the know how and experience working together. Now with a European television deal and two of the UK’s leading, yet completely different promotions heading the charge there becomes a real opportunity to present the best of British wrestling on a whole new level to a whole new audience. Both IPW:UK and WAW will continue to present shows in their own unique style as only they can. The only difference fans will notice about both promotions is a step up in production, something that has been cited as the only thing preventing them from reaching the next level. Along with the help of RQW this has become possible.
The channel concerned has a viewership of 10 million homes on German Cable, 800,000 German Satellite, 2.6 million European satellite and with RQW programming featuring seven nights a week the figures speak for themselves. British wrestling will be featured more prominently on a European scale than it has for a very long time. Additionally the programmes will be presented to the world market for license with interest being shown in several non-European markets due to the work already undertaken by the existing RQW TV show.
UK fans need not fear as talks are also currently underway to make programming available to a worldwide audience via their website. Both promotions will still present exclusive DVD releases of their shows which will include the complete uncut events. IPW:UK’s first TV taping will take place May 4th 2008 at The Great Hall, Bromley Civic Centre; their debut at the new ‘home’ venue. With an action packed card headlined by former WWE superstar Eugene, as well as an IPW:UK title match that will see Big Brother 8’s Billi Bhati going one on one in with IPW:UK Champion Martin Stone. www.ipwuk.com
Whilst WAW’s will happen on May 18th 2008 as they return to The Talk, Norwich where they will present a hard-hitting night of wrestling that will see a diversity of different styles on display. The main event will see Earl Ling team up with The Zebra Kid to take on the combination of Sam Slam and Karl Kramer in a builders cage shoot fight – a match that promises to be talked about for years to come! www.waw-uk.com
In the meantime it will be interesting to see what happens at the Seni weekend, as Real Quality Wrestling will present 4 TV Tapings of top wrestling action at the London Excel Centre on Saturday April 26th. This has been reduced from the original 2 days planned due to re-organisation of the SENI event by the organisers, but it does put wrestling in the main arena where it should be.
RQW owner Len Davies sums up the collaboration in stating, ‘I’m sure that there will be a lot of questions following this announcement. Over the next few weeks and months all of these questions and more will be answered as it will become apparent just why a European television deal is so important to British promotions. Without a doubt these are truly exciting times’
ANNOUNCED THIS MORNING AGAIN I DONT BS.

Bellum Letale" was an apt card name for this show, which drew another packed house at The Talk in Norwich, because Zebra Kid & Earl "Wild Thing" Ling vs Karl Krammer & Sam Slam was every bit a "Deadly War". An absolute epic of a main event, with plunder shots a-plenty. Why have one kendo stick shot when you can have a dozen? Why break a guitar over someone's head when you can break it, then continue to hit him with the splintered remnants? Quite simply, these four men earned their pay and then some, and all four may, in fact, be crazy. Zebra went to work on Slam & Krammer like you'd swear they'd just become American Citizens, and Earl Ling was just so much fun to watch. He was dressed in a Zebra Kid singlet, and he had MMA style gloves on - and he just ambled around, launching combination after combination on his opponents, along with - yes - a billion weapons shots. How any of these men were able to walk out of the hall is beyond me.
There was no cage, sadly - but they made up for it with something approximating UWFi rules - where a decision could only come from someone either tapping or verbally submitting, and each team had six rope breaks (or escapes) to work with. Once you'd used up all your rope breaks, the ropes can no longer save you from a hold. I have no idea how long the match lasted, but it seemed to go quite a while (which is incredible given the punishment they were taking and giving) and incorporated a ladder, guitars, kendo sticks and cookie sheets. Eventually, Zebra locked Sam in what I think was a Cobra Clutch with a bodyscissors, and Sam gave up.
Post match, Sam conceded that Zebra beat him fair and square, and they shook hands. Not so content, however, was Karl Krammer. Krammer decided that since he had taken Earl Ling's 'best shots' and was still standing, he was the better man - and the agreement was struck for a wrestler vs boxer bout at some indeterminate future date between "The Barbarian" and "The Wild Thing".
The other major match was Sweet Saraya & Britani Knight vs Jade & Jetta, which also delivered in spades. Britani's got new gear, post Norfolk Dolls, but who should turn up at ringside but her erstwhile partner, Melodi, who recently announced her retirement. For some reason, there wasn't the happy hug you'd expect from those two, with Melodi staring a hole through Britani. The match was 2/3 falls. Fall #1 went the way of The Double J Express, when Britani was pinned by Jetta. Britani had been clotheslined on the top rope by Jade, and then Jetta scooped her feet and pinned her with her feet all over the ropes. Fall #2 went to the Knight women, with Saraya killing Jade with a sitout powerbomb for the three. The final fall appeared to have also gone to the Knights, as Saraya slammed Jade and locked her up in a bridge for a three - however, the ref then rescinded his count, because Saraya wasn't legal. Meanwhile, Britani & Melodi ended up face to face outside the ring, and a shove later and they ended up in a vicious BRAWL! Wrestlers, trainees and officials came out from the back to separate the former Dolls, but that unfortunately left Saraya at the mercy of Jade & Jetta, who unmercifully beat the piss out of Saraya, allowing Jetta to hit a fisherwomans suplex for the three count before Britani could make the save.
Post match, Saraya cut a promo explaining that at the WAWW show on Bank Holiday Monday, she had decided on two matches for the show. Firstly, Saraya was going to challenge Jetta for the WAWW British Ladies Championship, and secondly, whatever the issue is between Melodi & Britani will be settled as they will go one on one. I literally can't wait for either of those matches.
Zak Zodiak fought Brett "The Kraft" Meadows in a really good match. Kraft has ditched the pleather (YAY~!) and is now heel, so is basically migrating his sleazy heel persona from HEW onto the WAW shows, which is also a good thing. Kraft as a goofy sleazeball is so much more fun than being just the generic big dude with long hair. Sam Knee came out to interfere, tripping Zak - but he went to the back when Paul Tyrell came out. Tyrell, as you may remember, was dumped last month by Sam after losing the British Lightweight Title to Zodiak. Tyrell encouraged Zak, including encouraging him to go up for a second splash... and then Tyrell struck, pushing Zak off the top. An Essex Bomb later, and Meadows was your winner. Post match, Tyrell explained that he needed to get even with Zodiak, and also that he and Kraft had just formed the new Essex Boys. Rowdy Ricky Knight came out (in a shirt and tie, no less) and cut an impassioned promo about how Kraft never knew what it meant to be WAW, and that once his leg injury heals up, he and Zak would kick the crap out of The Essex Boys. Tyrell promised that if that happened, it would be the end of Ricky Knight's career.
Later in the show it was Paul Tyrell vs DA Ashe. Match was going along fine until Zak came out to ringside. He never touched Tyrell, but his mere presence was enough to cause Tyrell to get caught with a rollup by Ashe, who got the three count.
In other news from the show, Scott Fusion beat Phil Bedwell in a really nice opener; "Gentleman" Jimmy Ocean beat Steve Quintain 2-1 in a World of Sport match, and Tank O'Rooney won the Academy Battle Royal, giving him a contract for the WAW main shows.
Match results, in order 1. Scott Fusion beat Phil Bedwell 2. Brett "The Kraft" Meadows pinned Zak Zodiak 3. World Of Sport Rules: "Gentleman" Jimmy Ocean beat Steve Quintain 2-1 4. 2/3 Falls: Jetta & Jade beat Sweet Saraya & Britani Knight 2-1 5. Dark Angel Ashe pinned Paul Tyrell 6. Hardcore Submission Match: Zebra Kid & Earl "Wild Thing" Ling beat Sam Slam & Karl Krammer (Zebra over Slam) 7. Tank O'Rooney won the Academy Battle Royal.
So yeah, auspicious start for the new WAW TV show, with the top two matches both delivering massively. Earl Ling, while he may not get the intricacies of pro-wrestling, is a lot of fun to watch - just wandering around, punching the hell out of people. I have no idea what the story is with Melodi & Britani, but holy CRAP, I can't wait to see them beat each other up next week. I like the newly heel Kraft, and a "Norfolk vs Essex" storyline has got a lot of potential as far as Tyrell and Meadows' new gimmick goes. Jimmy Ocean vs Steve Quintain wasn't to much of the crowd's taste, but I dug it and it told a story, which was nice. Very little to complain about, to be honest.
thanks to stew for an in depth a fair review.
