If however they can add to this country and not leach off it like most do-i dont just mean football-then they should be kicked out or better still not be allowed here in the first place. Why should someone who is born and bred in this country not be given a chance because a "forigner" will do it cheaper. Thats not how i run business and never will. Its not racist, its a princible. I dont care wheteher someones black brown or yellow as long as they are english and can do a job. |

Given a choice between an assylum seeker and you, Arthur, I'd deport you!

i 2nd that mate, why shouldnt he be given the chance?? if he is capable and he has shown that then why doesnt he deserve a chance??? just because he born on the other side of the world shouldnt put him at disadvantage. i would agree and say deport him if he was doing nothing showed no work ethic or desires but this kid has been blessed with a skill many in the world would die for and they want to take this away from him
i myself think the appeal will be succesful

So when you lose out on a job to a Polishman or Albanian who will do a crap job but for less money just remeber where i was coming from.

There has always been a racist element in City's support that is small and but deeply shaming and this thread just illustrates it. Perhaps it is the remoteness, the monoculture or the fact these people don't actually know any asylum seekers or immigrants that causes a certain ignorance.
The fact is Arthur we are in a global economy and my job could go to someone abroad whether or not they came into this country. The UK has been greatly enriched by migrants both culturally and economically (statistically they collectively contribute more in tax than they receive in benefits, they are also on average more productive than the average brit). Many parts of the economy such as Agriculture, Hospitality and the NHS would collapse without their contribution.
Now the fact you seem gleeful over a footballer being returned to a country where he could be killed, tortured or imprisoned shows how low you are.
Racism in football
Kick it out!

If those of you that are deriding immigrants are so concerned that they're undercutting the wages and conditions of British-born workers why it is that the Trades Union Congress defends immigration? Surely, they're in a better position to understand the implications of immigration for British workers than most?
At this point I should really declare my interest - I do voluntary work with asylum seekers with the Red Cross. It's taught me a lot but the main thing I've learnt is that this really, really is not a 'them' and 'us' issue.
I'll spare you all of the gory details but I've worked with tens of people who bear the scars of their persecution - a Kosovan man who had a hole torn in his cheek as Serbs tried to rip his tongue out, someone from China who was imprisoned and tortured by the Chinese triads (who rang his mum up during the process) and was rescued by the Met, a Rwandan woman who had to hide herself and her two year old child in a mass grave for ten days. And many, many more - including lots of people who've seen their husband/son or daughter killed in front of them.
All of these people have had a terrible struggle to get asylum - as I've said the system is set up by default to refuse people. None of them had any choice about coming to England (traffickers take their money and their documents and dump them wherever they can) - it was just leave by any means or die. Whatever people say it is not easy to get to the UK and we are regarded (and are) one of the most difficult UK countries to get asylum in.
But there are many immigrants I can't abide - the people who traffic children for sex (and who end as prostitutes used by British people), the drugs and guns gangs from the former Soviet Union and Eastern Bloc, the gangmasters who exploit vulnerable immigrants by getting them to pick the fruit we eat and pluck the chickens we roast for a pittance. Gangmasters who, by the way, steal people's nationality documents so they can't return to their own countries and the gangmasters whose activities are tolerated by the British owners of companies that subcontract work to them.
If you really to have some immigrants to have a go at at least choose your targets a bit more carefully. And while you're at it ask yourself what part are you playing in keeping the whole sorry, exploitative system going.
Oooh, I do love a good immigration debate

Great posts Kick it Off, Shack Attack and Slater.
Indeed, asylum seekers are not even allowed to work while they're claiming asylum, so calling them layabouts and spongers is ridiculous.
Also, as somebody said about rich businessmen not paying tax; Rupert Murdoch (owner of the Times, Sun, News of the World etc) only pays 1% corporation tax because he's mates with Blair. Funnily enough his newspapers are full of stories about how immigrants are to blame for every ill in society. Think about that for a minute, seems to me they're just deflecting the blame from themselves and their super-rich elite friends and the miserable society THEY created (privatisation etc). Divide and rule as they say.
It's people like Murdoch and the elite who are the real leeches and parasites, not ordinary, impoverished people trying to get by.
As for Arthur, well I can only guess his primary source of information is a tabloid newspaper, so it's not entirely his fault his opinions are skewed, as anyone's would be if they read that rubbish every day.

The majority of responses to this thread are disgusting and are an unwelcome reminder of the deep ignorance and generalised racism that remains strong in this rural and isolated county.
Please mods do a better job before any more of these bumpkin bigots get out their flaming torches and pitch forks.

Why should Bangoura be treated any different from any other asylum seeker? Are we suggesting all asylum seekers should be granted such or are we suggesting different rules for footballers because we like football?
I don't know the grounds for his rejection to form a better opinion but we have immigration controls for good reason.
Whilst Bangoura could well be a better citizen than many of the indigenous population (many of whom I would gladly export to Sierra Leone!) he still has to meet the criteria necessary to stay whatever that may be - and that extends beyond paying taxes while he can.
new manager. new players. Same old sh!te.

and i think most people will agree that alot of africian people are the nicest people around in the world who will go out of there way to help us, let alone themselves, unlike in the uk when all everyone cares about is themselves
i dont personally know al bangura so i cant say he great bloke etc... but i feel he is worth more to the uk than say mary smith who is mum to 5kids, not working and just on benefits, and purely has children to maximise her benefits
