Play off final - Battle of the Uglies!
What odds on that then? Hull (or Watford) V Bristol City.
Three of the biggest and ugliest playing teams in the league battling it out to join king of the uglies Stoke City, and the only team who had the quality to pass their way out of the division, West Brom. All the others have found success playing grim, warfare football which is pretty sad really. What it seems to say is, if you don't have the players to win playing attractively, then you can win by fielding a team of animals! Ask me if i'd take promotion or the play offs playing like that, well probably i would, but it doesn't stop it being sad. At least Roeder intends to play properly, but it seems like it is getting increasingly difficult to be successful in this division playing that way.

Good point, but which of the three going up have the best chance of staying there? My money's on WBA, two-thirds (thanks GR) of a reasonable side, just need to bring in a few more decent players to give themselves a chance. As for the others, no chance, they will have to change their whole squad.

Wouldn't  say Bristol City play ugly football. Stoke, Hull and Watford, yes, but not Bristol.

I thought Bristol City have played good football this season, too. Reminded me a bit of us during our Play-Off season. They still don't stand much chance of staying up if they make it, mind.

who says that long ball game wins nothing??? Stoke are up and one of these 3 hoofers could join them.. all finished in the playoffs too... sod the passing game.. lets get 11 players over 6'1 and punt it up field aimlessly!

on a serios note they might be ungainly players but they can all play football.. sure they knock it long but they can pass it too.. also, look at their disciplinary records.. they all have players who put u on ur Ar*e.. like i have been saying for 4 years now.. we are team full of pansies and need a couple of psychos in the side...

jas :)

Re: Play offs - battle of the uglies!

Must say I agree with others that it is harsh to accuse Bristol City of just playing hoofball, and even Hull can pass it around when they want.  Truth is however that Stoke are going to be found out week in week out against Premiership class next season if they try and persist with that style.

I think any of these teams will struggle though because they will not be able to attract the top standard players they need as agents will assume they are going to get relegated which then becomes a self-fullfilling prophecy.  In fact Derby may only hold the record points low for one season.  Add to the mix the playoff teams have two less weeks to do business in and you are starting well off the pace.

I think Glenn would like to make our team bigger and uglier.

Bristol City play good football, and Hull are not bad. Cant stand Watfords clog style or Stokes.

Agree with you 100% but the issue is that one of them will be in the Premiership next season having played ugly football.
