After a successful loan spell cut short by injury, Marshall
signed permanently for Norwich this summer. The 6ft 3ins stopper
had fallen out of favour at Celtic Park under boss Gordon
Strachan. He had risen to prominence with the Hoops after
starring in Europe, especially against Barcelona, but he lost
the number one shirt to Pole Artur Boruc. A frustrating spell
in the reserves followed, until Peter Grant took him on loan
in January. Although that spell ended after just five games
through an ankle injury, Grant had seen enough to go back
to his former club and force through a permanent transfer.
Peter Grant’s number one target for the summer was finally
captured from Celtic in a deal thought to have cost City around
£1m. Marshall impressed during a loan spell - cut short
by injury in the FA Cup tie at Chelsea – earlier this
year and his move to City should solve a problem that has
plagued Grant since he took the reins last October. If he
produces, it should help cure a few jitters in the City defence.
