Last meeting: Plymouth Argyle
3, Norwich City 1 (September 23, 2006):
A depressing 3-1 defeat meant Nigel
Worthington’s men had taken
just one point of a possible 12 from
the last four games. Plymouth took
the lead after 14 minutes when Gary
Doherty inadvertently deflected a
corner from Tony Capaldi into his
own net. Two minutes into the second
half Marcel Seip extended the home
side’s lead, heading home unchallenged
from another Capaldi flag kick. Norris
made it 3-0 after 74 minutes after
a fine solo run. Earnshaw grabbed
a consolation goal three minutes into
stoppage time. Full

Chances: A quiet
summer for the eccentric Ian Holloway
and his team after a successful season
last time round. The former QPR boss
will have been disappointed to lose
Capaldi, but still has a reasonably
strong squad at his disposal. The
Pilgrims surprised many last season,
including Norwich, with the level
of their performances - Ian Holloway's
men easily beat the Canaries in both
their league meetings and, in Hungarian
Akos Buzsaky, have one of the outstanding
midfielders in the Championship. A
solid and tough team, Argyle will
find it difficult to improve on last
season’s 11th place finish,
but Holloway will demand more nonetheless.
The 35-year-old Barry Hayles continues
to score goals and if Plymouth hit
the ground running they will fancy
their chances of a place in the play-offs.
Prediction: 14th
