How
to get there: Take the A12
until you reach the outskirts
of the town. At the Tescos
roundabout take the 2nd exit
(Ipswich West A1214) into London
Road. Follow Ipswich A1214 signs
for approximately two miles,
straight over roundabout to
junction at bottom of hill.
Go straight on and turn right
at the next set of lights into
West End Road. Follow signs
for the ground.
Best place to park: Limited
street parking around the ground,
but three car parks in Portman
Road - Alderman Rd, Portman
Rd, Cardinal Park - and several
town centre car parks within
10 minutes walk. Arrive
earlier to ensure a space close
to the ground.
Best place to eat: Selection
of fast food outlets within
walking distance to both the
south and north of the ground.
Best place to drink:
The Drum and Monkey close to
the ground is the most popular
choice for away supporters.
Otherwise, the Station Hotel
just outside the railway station,
is a traditional meeting place
for away fans.
Safe to wear scarf: Not
a wise move.
Return
journey: 90 miles
Journey time:
2hrs
Best League Win:
7-0 v Portsmouth 07/11/1964
Division 2
Last meeting:
Norwich City 1, Ipswich Town
1 (April 22, 2007): With Colchester
United running away with the
unofficial East Anglian title
– Sunday's Carrow Road
encounter at least offered the
Canaries the opportunity to
get their noses in front of
Ipswich Town in the table and
avenge a humbling defeat at
Portman Road in November. That
they didn't manage it was down
to their failure to cash in
on their overwhelming superiority
in the first half of one of
the better derby contests of
recent years, played out in
front of their biggest crowd
of the season. And though City’s
walking wounded were certainly
up for the battle, it was evident
in the second half that one
or two were short of full fitness.

Last Norwich away win: 18/09/2005
Ipswich 0, Norwich 1 (Huckerby)
Chances: The Tractor
Boys endured a difficult season
in Jim Magilton’s first
campaign in charge, but a promising
finish lifted spirits. Little
has happened in the transfer
market, mostly due to a chronic
lack of funds at Portman Road.
Magilton has brought back Miller
and Counago, and picked up the
consistent Alexander for nothing
but little is really expected
of Town as this season. Magilton
suffered a hammer blow to his
preparations when former goalkeeper
Richard Wright turn down a return
to Portman Road in favour of
a switch to West Ham and Magilton
has had to turn his attentions
elsewhere. Ipswich do have some
money to spend after they received
around £2.7m from Darren
Bent's move from Charlton to
Spurs thanks to a sell-on clause.
Prediction:
16th
